Bell Bank Employees Join the Fight Against Cancer
Bell Bank employees volunteered to help make the Relay for Life on the Red fundraiser a success.
“My daughter started volunteering for Relay for Life before I was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. She took me to the first event, and I have volunteered ever since. I think it is a wonderful cause, and my hope is that someday there will be a cure. When I walk the survivors’ lap, I think about how I got to survive, and so many others didn’t. I will continue to volunteer for Relay for Life as long as I am able. It means so much to me that Bell sponsors this event,” – Sherri Thompson, reconcilement specialist
Relay for Life on the Red
Relay for Life events are major fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, uniting communities to celebrate people who have battled the disease and inspire participants to fight back. Donations are used to fund cancer research, patient support services, prevention and education information, and detection and treatment programs.
More than 20 Bell volunteers, including a few cancer survivors, helped with setup and registration for Relay for Life on the Red, held in Rendezvous Park in West Fargo June 16. A big part of the volunteers’ responsibility was to fill and placed luminarias – small paper bags that hold a votive candle and are decorated to spread messages of hope and honor people battling cancer, those lost to the disease and cancer survivors. The luminarias lined the path the survivors and participants walked throughout the relay.
